Training and risk assessment

This section summarises health and safety training, personal risk assessments and developments to the learning management system during the reporting period.

Health and safety training

The EssentialSkillz dashboard (Figure 3) is used to monitor training progress throughout the year. 90% of courses were completed on time, a 3% improvement on the previous year.  Courses and refreshers can be automatically allocated up to 31 March 2026. This along with staff on long term sick leave still being counted in the system does mean that 100% completion is unachievable.

Here is a visual only chart of: Infographic showing a 90% completion rate for health and safety training allocated to staff on the EssentialSkillz learning platform.

Table 3 provides a breakdown of course allocation and completion for online Health and Safety learning. 1850 health and safety related training courses were allocated to staff, with 1691 completed. The 90% average completion rate met the KPI target.

Personal risk assessments

Further to the risk assessments that form part of the Health and Safety Management System and cover daily working the online training platform, EssentialSkillz, facilitates person specific assessment on a range of topics (Table 4). 324 personal risk assessments were completed by staff which raised 239 issues. 88% of issues were resolved within the time period, with the remainder being active and ongoing.
