Scientific Committees

Food Standards Scotland is an observer on many UK Scientific Advisory Committees (SAC). Our involvement is mostly guided by a Memorandum of Understanding we have with the Food Standards Agency (FSA)

Scientific Committees

The work of independent Scientific Advisory Committees (SACs) and working groups in the UK and internationally, helps ensure that the Food Standards Scotland’s advice to consumers, business and Local Authorities is always based on the best scientific evidence.

Working with committees

Food Standards Scotland has observer status on a large number of UK SACs. Our role with these committees is largely covered by our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Food Standards Scotland has a similar relationship with the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN), which is supported by Public Health England (PHE).
