Summary
This report, produced by Health Protection Scotland (HPS) on behalf of FSS, outlines the data linkage for laboratory confirmed campylobacter cases in Scotland during the 5-year period 2013-2017. ECOSS (Electronic Communication of Surveillance in Scotland) laboratory data was connected to deprivation, hospitalisation, cancer, prescribing and mortality to determine the demographic characteristics of confirmed campylobacter cases. Additionally, rates of hospitalisation, mortality, and the incidence of complications and associated health problems across the Scottish population was determined. Results are presented in tables and graphs, and discussed in the context of findings of a literature review on campylobacter infections and associated outcomes.
