Addressing the findings

Actions taken
  • We are using the sampling results to inform a review of foods that pose higher risks to people who are more vulnerable to food poisoning.
  • FSS is working with partners to raise awareness about the risks of STEC from handling and eating uncooked flour and flour products, and how to avoid them.
  • After finding a high failure rate in detecting milk protein in milk-alternative lattes, FSS is working with local authorities to help coffee shops and cafés understand the risks for people with milk allergies.
  • We are also developing labelling guidance and running public awareness activity to support informed consumer choices.
