Your request was about the following information:

Under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, I request the following information for each slaughterhouse approved under the Food Hygiene (Scotland) Regulations 2006: 

For each approval number listed in the attached file uk_slaughter_and_cutting_plants_for_foi.csv, please provide, for the calendar years 2023, 2024, and year-to-date 2025:

Q1. Total number of animals slaughtered, by species (cattle, sheep/lambs, goats, poultry, other). 

Q2. For each species, the number slaughtered: 

• following pre-stunning; 

• without pre-stunning for religious slaughter (halal/kosher); 

• without pre-stunning for other purposes (if applicable).

A1. Total number of animals slaughtered, by species (cattle, sheep/lambs, goats, poultry, other). Food Standards Scotland (FSS) publishes all throughput data for the whole of Scotland, including wild game on our website. This data can be found at Throughput in Approved Abattoirs and Game Handling Establishments.

A2. For each species, the number slaughtered: 

• following pre-stunning;

• without pre-stunning for religious slaughter (halal/kosher); 

• without pre-stunning for other purposes (if applicable). 

All slaughter in FSS-approved establishments in Scotland are done with prior stunning.
