Ingredients

  • Around 20g porridge oats
  • 150 ml of semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 thick slice of wholemeal toast with thinly spread low fat spread
  • 1 small glass of pure fruit juice (150 ml)

Method

  1. In a pot, slowly add the milk to the oats, stirring well
  2. Bring slowly to the boil, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens.
  3. Or, mix oats with the milk and microwave for 2-3 minutes.

Tips

  • Porridge is an excellent choice at breakfast and is low in fats, sugar and salt. Avoid adding any sugar or honey.
  • Fruit juice and smoothies count towards your 5 a day, although they are a source of free sugars so you should limit consumption to no more than a combined total of 150ml per day.
