Radioactivity in Food and the Environment (RIFE) report 2019

FSS works with UK environmental agencies and the FSA to monitor radioactivity in food and the environment (RISE) through annual RIFE reports, which detail findings from food and drinking water analyses.

Summary

This annual report gives the results of UK-wide radiological sampling and analysis carried out in 2019 by the environmental and food safety organisations, including Food Standards Scotland.  This 25th anniversary edition of the Radioactivity in Food and the Environment (RIFE) report marks a quarter of a century since the landmark RIFE report was first published; the first joint monitoring and assessment report for the whole of the UK

It shows that food remains safe and radiation doses to the public from nuclear licensed sites with authorised releases of radioactivity were still well below the UK and EU legal limit in 2019.
