FSS response to CMA’s infant formula report
Food Standard Scotland (FSS) welcomes the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) final study report on the infant formula market and the recommendations made in respect of the regulations on infant formula and follow-on formula.
The report has been fully considered, and a joint UK four-country response has now been published where governments across the four nations detail the next steps that will be taken to help support parents and carers to make informed decisions when choosing infant formula. FSS will work with the other UK nations to undertake this work on a UK four-country basis through the Nutrition Labelling and Compositional Standards framework group.
For parents and carers who formula feed their babies, one top tip to note is that all infant formula must meet strict nutritional, compositional and safety requirements which are set out in the legislation. Therefore, all infant formula, regardless of the price, will meet a baby’s nutritional needs.
