You asked for a list of all abattoirs with active licenses to include the following information:

- A unique ID/approval number

- The business name

- The company number (if known)

- The full address

- The species of animals that are slaughtered

- The methods used for slaughter (eg throat cut, gas, stunned, etc) (if known).

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide information on methods used for slaughter as we do not currently hold this data.  Once approved for slaughter, every establishment has the capability to choose their slaughter method, provided that the requirements in the Regulations are met. There is no separate approval process to classify establishments performing different methods of slaughter.

The other information you have requested is currently available online.  Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you.
