The Raw Factory Ltd is recalling various raw pet food products containing tripe and/or pork because they contain salmonella.

Food Standards Scotland is issuing this product recall notice because we are responsible for animal feed and pet food labelling Regulations and the enforcement of pet food labelling through local authorities.

Risk:

The presence of salmonella in the products listed below. Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning in humans and animals. The product could therefore carry a potential risk, either through direct handling of the food, or indirectly for example from food bowls or utensils or contact with the faeces of infected animals. In humans, symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Our advice to consumers:

When handling and serving raw foods for pets it is always advised to clean utensils and feeding bowls thoroughly. Consumers should wash hands thoroughly after handling raw pet food and store separate from any ready to eat foods. Care should be taken when defrosting to avoid cross contamination of other foods/surfaces. If you have bought any of the above products, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Action taken by the company:

The Raw Factory Ltd is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.
