Response to Public Health England’s sugar reduction report on progress between 2015 and 2018

Food Standards Scotland responds to Public Health England’s sugar reduction report on progress between 2015 and 2018.

Heather Peace, Head of Public Health Nutrition said:

“We’re encouraged by the pace and positive results that the soft drinks industry levy has made in reducing sugar from these products.

“However, urgent action is needed to meet the wider sugar reformulation programme’s aim of reducing sugar in other high sugar foods by 20% next year.

“The findings of the report provides further evidence that a wider range of high sugar foods should be subject to a levy.”
