FSS statement on CMA final market study report on the infant formula market

Food Standard Scotland (FSS) is aware of the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) final market study report on the infant formula market and the recommendations made in respect of the regulations on infant formula and follow-on formula. This is a devolved matter and in Scotland the policy responsibility for these regulations sits with FSS. We will consider the recommendations made by the CMA in respect of the regulations for Scotland and discuss this on a UK four-country basis through the Nutrition Labelling and Compositional Standards framework group.

In the meantime, for parents and carers who formula feed their babies, one top tip to making an informed purchasing choice is that all infant formula must meet strict nutritional, compositional and safety requirements which are set out in the legislation. Therefore, all infant formula, regardless of the price, will meet a baby’s nutritional needs.
