Food Standards Scotland (FSS) was established by the Food (Scotland) Act 2015. It is a nonministerial public body and part of the Scottish Administration. Under the 2015 Act, Scottish Ministers are responsible for appointing and reappointing members of FSS and for setting their remuneration. The first round of appointments to the Board were made shortly prior to establishment of FSS as a new public body in 2015 and was therefore not overseen by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland, however the process undertaken adhered to the regulated procedure as closely as possible. Applications from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, disabled people and people under 50 were particularly welcome. All future Board appointments will be overseen by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland and will also require to comply with the provisions of The Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Bill which will be enacted later this year.

6. What is the current median FTE pay for men and women in the organisation?
