The Wild Game Guide (WGG) provides information on the hygiene regulations for food businesses that supply wild game and for people who hunt wild game and supply it either in-fur or in-feather or as small quantities of wild game meat.
The guide was fully reviewed and published in June 2014 and amended in November 2015. A further review of the content and layout of the WGG is now underway and, as part of the review process, comments are being sought from stakeholders from the wild game meat industry and local authorities. Once all comments have been received, collated, considered and accepted they will be integrated into the final version of the WGG document; which will ultimately be published on our website. Comments would be welcome by 13 February 2017 to: firstname.lastname@example.org
This guide is for:
- those who shoot and/or supply wild game
- enforcement officers
- retailers and processors
The guide includes an easy to follow flowchart on pages nine and ten giving a brief summary of the requirements that apply in certain situations in which game can be supplied either in-fur or in-feather or as game meat. More detailed information for each supply scenario is available in the guide.
This guide has been produced to provide informal, non-binding advice on the legal requirements which covers provisions in relevant parts of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 and Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 and should be read in conjunction with the legislation itself. The text should not be taken as an authoritative statement or interpretation of the law, as only the courts have this power.
For information on the supply of wild game to game handling establishments see Chapter 12 of the Guide to Food Hygiene and Other Regulations for the Meat Industry.
