The Fresh Produce Tool is developed by Food Standards Scotland in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency, Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board Horticulture and Hutchison Scientific to help fresh produce growers and the Local Authorities working with them to help manage the risk of microbiological contamination.
Users of the tool can identify improvement opportunities and learn how the risk of microbiological contamination of their products can be reduced.
There are two different assessments available within the tool:
Food safety can be a major concern in the fresh produce supply chain. Our aim is to help growers of fresh produce to follow best practice so they can understand which food pathogens are involved and how to control those viruses and bacteria.
To accompany the assessments there is also a ‘Resources’ tab which contains background information and guidance documents and also a ‘Trending’* tool- which will allow growers to submit water testing results and plot graphs of previously entered results.
You can use the assessments freely and anonymously, but there is a helpful option available to create an account, if you wish to record your assessments.
We hope that you will find this tool useful and informative-please use the contact tab to submit any feedback you have.
